November 5th Discussion Questions
1. What is the Chorus’ opening speech about?

The Chorus's opening speech describes what happens when the king returns to England. Specifically, it is about the townspeople giving the king honor and him turning the honor to God.

2. According to Mistress Quickly, why does Falstaff die?

According to Mistress Quickly, Falstaff dies because the King broke his heart.

3. What happens to Bardolph? Why is this important?

Bardolph gets hung because he is caught stealing. This is important because it makes Pistol and Fluellen's original animosity towards each other increase.

4. What does Henry do on the night before the battle of Agincourt?

He goes undercover and talks to his soldiers. He then gives a speech about the coming battle.

5. What is the atmosphere in the French camp before Agincourt?

They are confident in their abilities, thinking that they are surely going to win.


6. How does Henry motivate his men to fight?

Henry motivates his soldiers to fight by not ransoming himself to the French.

7. What happens to the boys who are guarding the English soldiers’ baggage? What does
Henry do in response?

The boys guarding baggage are killed. Henry then kills all of the French prisoners.

8. What happens between Henry V and Williams?

They take an oath to fight if both of them remain alive through the battle of Agincourt

9. What does Fluellen do to Pistol at the end of the play?

Fluellen makes Pistol eat his leek. Fluellen also beats him with a cudgel.

10. What is the point of the Duke of Burgundy’s speech in Act 5, scene 2?

The point of his speech is to encourage peace
